ROCHESTER, Minn. – Senior
Ashley Walker had a big game at the plate and in the circle, throwing a four-hitter and compiling three RBI to lead the Winona State softball team to a season-opening win over Wisconsin-Parkside in game one of a doubleheader at the RCTC Dome in Rochester.
Walker pitched seven scoreless innings, giving up just four hits while striking out six.
The two teams were in a pitchers' duel for the first four innings, as both teams were locked at 0-0. It was Walker who finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth, spotting herself some runs with a double to left center that scored
Lexi Perez and
Reed Karsten.
Jessica Kullmann then hit a two-run home run to left center field to score Walker and make it a 4-0 game.
The Warriors added another pair of runs in the sixth when a second Walker double made it 5-0 scoring Karsten before
Morgan Lintz recorded an RBI flyout to score Walker and increase the lead to 6-0 before Walker shut the door in the seventh to seal the victory.
