ROCHESTER, Minn. – Junior pitcher Hanna Lythberg followed in the footsteps of Ashley Walker's pitching performance in game one, throwing a two-hit gem to beat Wisconsin-Parkside 7-1 in the nightcap Tuesday evening at the RCTC Dome in Rochester.
Lythberg (1-0) was fantastic in the circle for the Warriors, pitching seven innings while giving up just two hits with only one unearned run and fanning 11 Rangers compared to just two walks.
Parkside briefly took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on a throwing error to first by Lythberg that scored UWP's Emily Hastings.
The lead didn't last long, as Morgan Lintz produced an RBI single down the right field line that plated Lexi Perez to tie the game at 1-1. WSU then took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when a wild pitch brought home McKenna Larsen.
The Warriors extended the lead in the fifth with four runs, as Walker reached on a fielding error that allowed Perez to score. Lintz then came up with her second RBI to right field of the game to plate Walker and after freshman Paige Keegan produced a 2 RBI single to left center to score Jessica Kullmann and Lintz, the Warriors had opened up a 6-1 lead before tacking on one final unearned run in the seventh to claim the 7-1 win.
Perez, Walker, Lintz and Natalie Kalmes each had two hits in the game for the Warriors, who had 11 as a team compared to just the two for the Rangers.
Winona State (2-0) is back in action this weekend when it travels to Rosemont, Ill. for five games beginning with a matchup against Saginaw Valley State at 1:30 p.m. Friday.Â
