WSU Tops Millersville 10-0, Falls To Maryville 8-5 Tuesday

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Winona State softball team picked up a commanding 10-0 win over Millersville before suffering just its second loss of the season in an 8-5 defeat to Maryville in the nightcap Tuesday in Clermont.

WSU wasted little time jumping out to a lead in the opener, as WSU posted four runs in the first inning against the Marauders. Allyson O'Herron opened the scoring with a 2 RBI double to left field, then Karly Olson produced an RBI single to right field before Evie Schaller added an RBI single to left to put WSU up 4-0.

The Warriors added three more in the second, as Jessica Kullmann had a 2 RBI double to left center field and Olson had an RBI groundout. WSU continued to pounce on Millersville in the third as Kullmann produced another RBI single while Paige Keegan added an RBI groundout to make it 9-0.

WSU added one more run in the fourth inning on a Shannon Nelson RBI single to put Millersville away 10-0 in just five innings.

Morgan Lintz earned her first win of the season in the circle, pitching all five innings while giving up just two hits while striking out a pair.

The Warriors saw its six game winning streak come to an end in game two, as freshman Alex Walker – sister of WSU ace Ashley Walker – made her collegiate debut in the circle, earning a no decision.

WSU took a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Ashley Walker had an RBI double and Kullmann had an RBI sacrifice fly.

Maryville tied it up in the bottom of the inning with a pair of RBI singles, but WSU retook the lead in the top of the second when Lintz drew a walk with the bases loaded.

The Saints scored three in the third to end Alex Walker's day down 5-3, but WSU tied it back up at 5-5 in the fifth when McKenna Larsen had an RBI sacrifice fly and Lexi Perz added an RBI bunt single, but Maryville pulled away with three runs in the bottom of the sixth on a pair of RBI singles followed by a steal of home on double steal.

Winona State (13-2) has an off day Wednesday before continuing its Florida swing Thursday with a pair of matchups against California (Pa.) and Tiffin at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. (CDT).
