The No. 14 Winona State softball team struggled to get its offense going Friday, dropping a pair of games to Central Oklahoma and Washburn at the Apple Market Classic in St. Joseph, Mo.
The Warriors dropped the opener 2-0 in a battle of a pair of top 20 teams before falling to Washburn 5-0 in the nightcap.
WSU managed just two hits against Central Oklahoma, with Morgan Lintz and McKenna Larsen each recording one. Starter Ashley Walker (6-2) did her best to keep WSU in the game, scattering seven hits while giving up two earned runs and striking out three.
The long ball hurt the Warriors in game two, as Lythberg gave up a pair of rare homers in the third and fifth innings that did the damage. Lythberg gave up nine hits and three earned runs but struck out eight in six innings of work.
Winona State (16-5) returns to action Saturday with a pair of games against Northwest Missouri State and Pittsburg State at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. in St. Joseph.
