Riebau, Bohanski Score In 2-1 Win Over Northern Michigan

WINONA, Minn. – Freshman Abby Bohanski notched her second game winner in as many games as the Winona State soccer team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 2-1 victory over Northern Michigan Sunday afternoon at a steamy Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.

The Warriors struck first early in the game when junior Meg Riebau scored her seventh career goal in the 10th minute off a header with an assist from Kenzie Rose.

Five minutes later the Warriors made it a 2-0 advantage when Bohanski – who scored Friday night's game winner – received a pass from Madalyn Jansen and found the back of the net for goal number two of her career and what would prove to be the game winner.

Northern Michigan goalkeeper Caroline Glantz made an early exit from the game in the 32nd minute after several collisions led to an apparent injury. Glantz left the game after giving up a pair of goals and four shots. Backup Alexandra Simmons was solid in relief, making four saves without allowing a goal the remainder of the game.

Maria Kiilunen cut the Winona State lead in half in the 70th minute when she headed in a ball from Hollie Koning to make it a 2-1 game, but it's all the Warriors would allow.

Winona State held a 17-9 advantage in shots and a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. Bohanski tallied five shots with three landing on goal, both game highs. Mehan Bolton added two shots on goal on four shots, while Kati Baker had two of her three shots reach the goalkeeper.

Rachel Oleson improved her record to 2-0, making three saves for the Warriors while allowing the lone goal.

Winona State (2-0) continues its three-game season-opening homestand Thursday night when it welcomes Fort Hays State to Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium for a 7 p.m. matchup.
