BISMARCK, N.D. – The No. 12 Winona State women's basketball team dropped its first road game of the season Friday night, falling to the University of Mary 83-80 at the McDowell Activity Center in Bismarck.
The Warriors had a good look to force overtime, as a 3-pointer from Connor Nagle rattled out with three seconds to play after WSU battled back from nine points down with less than four minutes to play.
Alexis Foley led the Warriors with 21 points, five rebounds and four assists on 8-of-12 shooting. Tara Roelofs added 19 points on 6-of-14 shooting and four steals, while Nagle scored 17 with four of WSU's seven 3-pointers and Timmerman finished with 13 points and five blocks.
The Warriors held a narrow 16-14 lead after the first quarter but found itself trailing at halftime for just the second time this season, 34-32. WSU hit just 3 of 14 3-point attempts in the first half (21.4 percent) and didn't fare much better in the second half, connecting on 4 of 13 (30.8 percent).
Winona State (16-2, 9-2 NSIC) looks to rebound Saturday when it battles Minot State at 4 p.m. in Minot, North Dakota.
