WINONA, Minn. – Hannah McGlone and Kayla Timmerman each recorded double-doubles and all five Warriors scored in double figures as the No. 14 Winona State women's basketball team led from start to finish in a 73-49 victory over Augustana Friday night in front of 1,001 fans in McCown Gymnasium.
Timmerman scored 10 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds, while McGlone picked up 10 points and 11 rebounds. Timmerman also swatted four shots.
Tara Roelofs led all scorers with 16 points and tallied four steals, while Alexis Foley and Connor Nagle each had 14 points.
The Warriors jumped all over the Vikings early and never looked back, as a rare four-point play from Nagle opened up an early 12-4 lead and a basket from McGlone opened up a double-digit lead less than three and a half minutes into the game. A quick five points from Roelofs soon after made it a 13-0 run and a 19-4 lead. That run quickly escalated to a 30-2 spurt capped off by a jumper from Nagle that saw the Warriors claim a commanding 36-6 edge with 7:07 to play in the second quarter and led 43-20 at halftime.
The Warriors held the Vikings to just 23 percent shooting in the first half (8-of-35) and McGlone nearly had her doubled-double in just 20 minutes with 10 points and eight boards. Nagle led WSU with 11 first half points.
Winona State didn't let up in the second half, keeping the lead above 20 throughout. A Tara Roelofs 3-pointer with 4:19 to play gave her a game-high 16 points and the Warriors their largest lead of the game with a 32-point advantage, 69-37 as WSU ran away with the eventual 73-49Â final.
The Warriors outshot Augustana 38.6 percent to 26 percent for the game and allowed the Vikings to make just seven of their 38 attempts from 3-point range.
Winona State (18-2, 11-2 NSIC) returns to McCown Gymnasium for a 4 p.m. tipoff Saturday against Wayne State.
