MARSHALL, Minn. – Sophomore Hannah McGlone ripped down the second-most rebounds in single-game history as the No. 12 Winona State women's basketball team posted a 57-42 win over Southwest Minnesota State Saturday evening in Marshall, Minnesota.
McGlone's 19 rebounds finished just one rebound shy of Lisa Parsons' program-record 20 boards set against Lewis (Ill.) University in 1989.
According to SMSU Sports Information, McGlone's 19 rebounds also goes down as the most in a single game in the 20-year history of the R/A Facility from either women's or men's basketball.
McGlone helped the Warriors claim a 41-28 rebounding advantage as a team.
Offensively, the Warriors were led by Kayla Timmerman, who recorded a season-high 22 points – just two points off her career high of 24 – on 9-of-14 shooting with eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks. Alexis Foley added 11 points and five rebounds with three steals and a pair of assists.
Emily Passint – inserted into the starting lineup for the first time this season – opened the scoring with a 3-pointer less than a minute in. Timmerman then scored seven straight points for WSU before A 3-pointer from Foley opened up a 13-7 lead. Jumpers from Jenny Weiland and Timmerman pushed WSU's lead to 17-9 at the end of the first quarter.
The Warriors built upon their lead in the second quarter, claiming a similar 16-9 edge as WSU led 33-18 at halftime, where Timmerman had 14 of her 22 points.
SMSU was held to single digits for the third straight quarter, scoring just eight in the third quarter while WSU managed 11. The Mustangs outscored the Warriors 16-13 in the final period but WSU had the game well in hand, cruising to the 57-42 victory.
The Warriors held SMSU to just 30 percent shooting, the sixth time this season holding an opponent to 30 percent or less from the field. WSU shot just over 40 percent, making 23 of 57 shots.
No. 12 Winona State (16-1, 9-1 NSIC) prepares for its longest road trip of the season next weekend when it heads northwest to the University of Mary and Minot State on Friday and Saturday.
