WINONA, Minn. – Junior setter
McKenna Larsen became the fifth Warrior in program history to have 3,000 assists in a career on Saturday as Winona State (22-3, 13-3 NSIC) swept past Minot State (5-20, 0-16 NSIC). The Warriors racked up 49 kills and 44 digs in route to a 25-11, 25-20, 25-18 victory.
Taylor Goar led all attackers with 13 kills on the afternoon.
Meghan Seymour had a season best 27 assists to go along with a season high four kills in two sets.
Maria Wrage had three blocks while
Danielle Rampart and
Jamie Cairncross each had nine digs to lead the defense.
The Warriors controlled the first from the first whistle, jumping out 13-3. They would never look back and a kill from Rampart gave WSU the 25-11 set one win.
After some lineup changes in the second set, Minot State took control early scoring four of the first five points in the second set. The score would remain close with the Beavers leading for a majority of the set. The Warriors found themselves down 19-17 before mounting a comeback with an 8-1 run to win 25-20.
The third set was also competitive but Winona State would maintain the lead for a vast portion of the set. The Warriors once again closed the set nicely, finishing on a 10-4 run.
Rampart and
Lauren Kudronowicz each finished with eight kills.
Sophie Wilker had five kills and hit .455.
Winona State goes on out the road next weekend to battle Bemidji State and Minnesota, Crookston in their final NSIC road trip of the year.
