WINONA, Minn. – The #16 Winona State Warriors are in Puerto Rico this weekend four a trio of games to start the regular season. It all starts at 4 p.m. today against Puerto Rico-Bayamon. They will then play Puerto Rico-Mayaguez tomorrow at 11 a.m. before finishing up against Bayamon on Sunday at 11 a.m.
The Warriors have a pair of exhibition games under their belt, having played Division I teams Drake University and the University of Wisconsin. Winona State played both teams tough on the road.
The regular season will begin with five games away from Winona before returning on Nov. 22 to face Concordia University (Wis.) at 7 p.m. The NSIC season gets underway four days later against Upper Iowa on Saturday, Nov. 26.
In their two exhibition games
Tara Roelofs and
Kayla Timmerman averaged 14.5 points.
Jenny Tuttle also averaged double digits, scoring 10.5 points per game. The Warriors shot 38.3% from the field and 39.5% from three.
Hannah McGlone was a monster on the boards, averaging 10.5 rebounds per game. She led WSU with eight offensive rebounds.
Winona State enters the 2016-17 as the NSIC preseason favorite after a record setting year in 2015-16. The Warriors will try to make another trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2017.
