WINONA, Minn. – Tara Roelofs,
Jenny Tuttle,
Kayla Timmerman and
Hannah McGlone all scored in double figures to lift the Warriors to a 78-61 victory over Upper Iowa in McCown Gym.
Jenny Tuttle started off hot for the Warriors (6-1 1-0 NSIC), getting the first basket of the game from behind the arc. Tuttle had eight of the Warriors' 18 first quarter points. The Peacocks (0-5, 0-1 NSIC) would knock down 3-of-6 shots from behind the arc in the quarter. The lead switched hands three times in the first ten minutes. Winona State would end the quarter with a 18-17 lead.
The tight scoring continued into the second quarter but the Peacocks found a way to outscore the Warriors 15-12, giving them a two point lead at half. Roelofs and Tuttle both finished the first half with ten points.
The Warriors shot an impressive 72 percent from the field to create separation in the in the third quarter.
Hannah McGlone would prove to be a dominate force as she would add 10 points and five rebounds in the first ten minutes of the second half. The Peacocks would not go quietly; making 2-of-5 from behind the arc in attempt to keep up. It would not be enough as the Warriors outscored the Peacocks 28-14 in the third quarter.
Jenny Weiland would add a buzzer beater 3-pointer to end the third quarter and push the Warrior lead to 58-46.
In the final quarter the Warriors added 20 points to their total while shooting 63 percent from the field. The Peacocks did not make a 3-point basket in the fourth quarter and only shot 25 percent from the field, as they got most of their points from free throw opportunities.
Roelofs led the Warriors offensively with 16 points. McGlone grabbed eight rebounds to go along with her season-high 14 points. Tuttle would be a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the arc for nine of her 14 points and
Kayla Timmerman would also have 14 points to go with four blocks.
The Warriors shot 51 percent from the field and 45 percent from 3-point range. Making nine of 11 free throws, they shot 81 percent from the foul line.
The Peacocks were held to 30 percent shooting from the field and behind the arc. The did hold the advantage at the foul line making 18 of 24 free throw opportunities.
The Warriors will be back in McCown Gym on Friday December 2
nd, as they host the University of Sioux Falls (5-0, 1-0 NSIC) for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
