Timmerman's 25 Leads Warriors Past Cougars

WINONA, Minn.Kayla Timmerman led the Winona State women's basketball team to a 70-60 win over the University of Sioux Falls with a career high 25 points. She added 11 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season.
 
The Cougars started with a 7-0 run until a Hannah McGlone layup to make it 7-2. The #14 Warriors would trail the duration of the first quarter. McGlone would make a layup just under five minutes to cut the deficit to three, at 11-8. Timmerman would knock down a three pointer to bring the Warriors within a basket around the one minute mark to make it 19-18 to end the first quarter.
 
The second quarter would start out with a Cougar 3-pointer and two free throws to extend their lead to 24-18. Tara Roelofs hit a 3-pointer of her own to bring the Warriors within one point of the Cougars for the second time. Timmerman hit her second of three, three-pointers to give the Warriors their first lead of the night. The Warriors defense would hold the Cougars to a mere five percent shooting from the field, only making one of 20 attempts in the quarter. The Warriors ended the half up 35-24.
 
Coming out of the locker room, Jenny Tuttle connected on two quick threes and Timmerman added a jumper giving the Warriors' their biggest lead of the game at 18 points. The Cougars would claw their way back into the game cutting the deficit to 10 to ending the third quarter trailing 52-42.
 
The Cougars would cut the lead to five, three minutes into the fourth quarter, the closest they would get to regaining the lead. Teams would exchange baskets and the Warriors would create enough separation to end the game 70-60. With the win, the Warriors move to 7-1 on the season and hand the Cougars their first conference loss.
 
The Warriors shot 43 percent from the field and 41 percent from 3-point range, while the Cougars shot 27 percent from the field and 31 percent behind the arc. The Warriors knocked down 15 of 17 free throws and the Cougars made 11 of 18.
 
For the second consecutive game, four Warriors scored in double figures. Timmerman led the Warriors with her 25 point, 11 rebound performance. Roelofs had 14 points and one shy of a double-double, nine rebounds. McGlone added 11 points, and another nine rebounds and Jenny Tuttle contributed 10 points and four assists.
 
The Warriors (7-1, 2-0 NSIC) host Southwest Minnesota State (1-5, 1-1 NSIC) Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
