Warriors Battle Badgers To A 78-71 Loss

Box Score MADISON, Wis. – The Winona State women's basketball team wrapped up their exhibition games in a battle with the University of Wisconsin Badgers at the Kohl Center, despite 29 points from Tara Roelofs, the Warriors fell 78-71.
 
Kayla Timmerman would get the scoring started by getting the first bucket of the game in the paint for Winona State. Wisconsin would record their first two points from the free throw line to make the score even. The afternoon started slow for Winona State as they shot a cold 18.8 percent from the field in the opening quarter and didn't make a shot beyond the arc. With two 3-pointers the Badgers were able to end the first quarter with a comfortable 22-11 lead.
 
The second quarter only saw eight points from the Warriors as the Badgers continued to create separation by hitting 62.5 (5-8) percent of their 3-pointers and 41.2 (7-17) percent of their shots within the arc. At the half the Badgers would have a 41-19 lead.
 
The second half was a different story for the Warriors as they came out of the locker room and Roelofs started her run to 29 points and Timmerman hit the first 3-pointer for the Warriors. The Warriors heated up the third quarter by shooting 73.7 (14-19) percent from the field and 71.4 from 3-point land, outscoring the Badgers 35-18 in the quarter. The Warrior used the momentum they created to finish the third quarter trailing by only five points at 59-54.
 
The, no longer comfortable, Badgers would answer with a 3-pointer of their own to bring their lead back to seven points. Although the Warriors would never regain the lead, they would twice cut the deficit to just three points in the fourth quarter. The Warriors played the Badgers just about point for point in the fourth quarter as they scored 17 and the Badgers scored 19. Roelofs would continue to have the hot hand as she added 10 points in the final quarter.
 
Winona State shot 40.9 percent on the night from the field and Wisconsin shot 45 percent. Winona State shot 41.2 percent from behind the arc as Wisconsin shot 50 percent.

Winona State made 10 of 16 free throws for 62.5 percent and Wisconsin made 12 of 22 for 54.5 percent.
 
Tara Roelofs led all scorers with 29 points followed by Kayla Timmerman with 14 and Jenny Tuttle added 12 and dished out six assists. Hannah McGlone grabbed 13 rebounds while Timmerman also grabbed six.

The Warriors will head to Puerto Rico for a set of games against the University of Puerto Rico Bayamon and Mayaguez over November 11th - 13th.
