FAYETTE, Iowa. - Winona State (10-2, 5-1 NSIC), down by six going into the final quarter, scored 23 fourth quarter points to pull away from Upper Iowa (0-10, 0-6 NSIC) in a 68-58 victory.
Jenny Tuttle and
Kayla Timmerman scored 17 points each to lead the way.

The Warriors connected on the first basket and had the lead until a Peacocks three-pointer gave them the advantage five minutes into the first quarter. A
Kayla Timmerman three-pointer would help the Warriors regain the lead late in the quarter. The first ten minutes ended with Winona State holding a 23-16 lead.

In the second quarter, there wasn't much separation created by either team as it included a three-and-a-half-minute scoring lull for both teams. The Warriors were able to extend their lead to nine points, three minutes before the half following a
MaKena Panning free throw. The Peacocks cut the deficit to three, 33-30, going into halftime.

The Peacocks would regain their lead early in the third quarter and stretch that lead to 11 twice.
Gabie Doud would knock down a jumper to help get the Warriors within three points of the lead late in the quarter. The Peacocks were able to hold on to their lead held a 51-45 lead over the Warriors going into the final quarter.

The Peacocks would extend their lead out 12 points, a Doud three-pointer would start the Warriors' rally. Back to back lay-ups from
Hannah McGlone and a jumper from Tuttle had the Warriors three points down halfway through the quarter. McGlone hit a free throw and Doud added a layup to tie the scores at 58, with three and a half minutes left to play. With the help of Timmerman's three-pointer and five free throws, with under a minute to play, the Warriors were able to close out the game 68-58 over the Peacocks.

Tuttle and Timmerman led the Warriors with 17 points each. Tuttle connected on 6-of-8 free throws and Timmerman grabbed four steals.
Hannah McGlone had her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Gabie Doud, in her first start as a Warrior, added nine points.

Winona State shot 46 percent from the field and 42 percent from the three-point range and made 10 of 16 free throws. Upper Iowa shot 35 percent from the field and 44 percent from three-point range, while making five of seven free throws.

Winona State moves to 5-1 in conference play and atop the NSIC South Division with the win. The Warriors will be back in action December 30
th and 31
st as they host Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State in McCown gym.
