Warriors Win Fourth Straight In McCown

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State (8-1, 3-0 NSIC) women's basketball team won their fourth consecutive home basketball game this year as they defeated Southwest Minnesota State (1-6, 1-2 NSIC) 60-36 in McCown gymnasium.
 
A three pointer from each team would get the game started. The Mustangs were only able to make four baskets in the first quarter with three of them coming from behind the arc. The Warriors were able to connect on 50 percent of their shots from the field. With a late 6-0 run, they were able to pull ahead 10 points and end the quarter leading 21-11.
 
Again, in the second quarter the Mustangs struggled to find points as they only made two of 11 shots. Kayla Timmerman swatted five shots in the second quarter to go along with her four rebounds. After two quarters, the Mustangs were shooting 20 percent, making six of their first half attempts. The Warriors would close the half with a 34-20 lead.
 
In the third quarter, the scoring slowed even more. The Warriors added only seven points to the board and the Mustangs had a quarter with just two field goals, one from 3-point range.
 
The Warriors outscored the Mustangs 19-8 in the final quarter to extend their lead to 24 points. In the final three quarters of action the Warriors held the Mustangs to 25 points.
 
The Warriors finished the game shooting 40 percent from the field and 31 percent from behind the arc. The Warriors made one of only three free throw opportunities. The Mustangs shot 18 percent from the field, 20 percent from behind the arc and made 11 of 18 free throw attempts.
 
Hannah McGlone scored a game high 12 points and had 8 rebounds. Jenney Tuttle had 11 points as she was 3 of 6 from three-point range. Kayla Timmerman had eight points, 11 rebounds, seven blocks and dished out six assists.
 
The Warriors will take their first road trip since conference play started as they travel to play Minnesota State Mankato (4-1, 1-1 NSIC) and Concordia St. Paul (5-3, 1-1 NSIC) on Friday, December 8th and Saturday, December 9th.
