NCAA Tournament Run Ends With Four Set Loss

ST. PAUL, Minn. – #6 Winona State (27-6) hung with the number one team in the nation Concordia St. Paul (30-2) before falling 16-25, 11-25, 25-21, 22-25 in four sets. Danielle Rampart had her second double-double in the NCAA Tournament, finishing with 13 kills and 15 digs. Taylor Goar did the same adding 10 kills and led the team with 19 digs.
 
Winona State finished the year with 27 wins, second most in school history. Their .818 winning percentage this season was the best in school history. They also advanced to the round of 32; winning their first NCAA Tournament match in their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
 
"I could not be prouder of these young ladies and what we accomplished this season," said Head Coach Joe Getzin in his post-match press conference. "We showed what we are starting to build at Winona State."
 
The Golden Bears came ready to play, jumping out 11-4 in the opening set. The Warriors were unable to slow Concordia and the lead grew to nine at 15-6. Winona State tried to rally late, cutting the CSP lead to four at 17-13, unfortunately Concordia ended the set on an 8-3 run to win 25-16.
 
Winona State fell behind 6-1 in the second set but calmed the storm momentarily, getting within two at 8-6. The Golden Bears would pull away after going on a 14-3 run and taking the set 25-11.
 
The third set was competitive from the opening serve. Winona State held a 5-1 lead but CSP rallied to tie it at six. The two teams would trade leads on a couple occasions. The Warriors grabbed their second four point lead of the set at 17-13. The Golden Bears rallied, tying the set at 18 and forcing a Warrior timeout. Concordia took the lead briefly out of the timeout but Winona State answered back. The Warriors would score the last four points of the set to win 25-21.
 
The Warriors took another early lead in set four but the Golden Bears were right on their heels. With the set tied at eight, WSU scored three straight to force a CSP timeout. Eventually the Golden Bears would reclaim the lead and force a Winona State timeout at 17-15. The Warriors did not sink away, retaking the lead 21-20. WSU could not hold the lead as CSP picked up the 25-22 win to secure the match.
