Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warriors Fall To Golden Bears 67-62

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State men's basketball team led for a majority of the game but couldn't hang on, falling to Concordia-St. Paul 67-62 Saturday night in front of 1,602 fans in McCown Gymnasium.

The Warriors held a 38-36 lead with 14 minutes to play in the second half, but scored just one basket in the following nine minutes as Concordia went on a 21-3 run to take a 57-41 lead with 5:25 to play. A 12-1 run ending with five straight points from Kyle Bauman pulled WSU to within five at 63-58 with 1:11 to play and a Mark Blacklock layup brought it to a one possession game with 24 seconds left but were unable to pull even as the Golden Bears ended WSU's six game winning streak with a 67-62 victory.

WSU held a slight advantage in shooting percentage at 41.3 percent to an even 40 percent, but attempted just three free throws while the Golden Bears went 21-of-34 from the charity stripe. CSP also outrebounded the Warriors 41-32.

Masberg led the Warriors with 15 points – 13 of which came in the second half – along with seven rebounds. Bauman added 14 points and six rebounds, while Riley Bambenek scored 11 points.

The game went the Warriors' way early on as a 10-0 run midway through the first half capped off with a Josh Mongan 3-pointer put the Warriors up 21-11, but the Golden Bears closed the half on a 7-0 run to cut WSU's lead to just three, 27-24, and controlled much of the second half.

Winona State (13-11, 12-8 NSIC) closes out the regular season next weekend when it travels to Wayne State on Friday and Augustana on Saturday.
