WINONA, Minn. - The Warriors (4-2, 1-2 NSIC) are coming off of a 4-0 victory over Minnesota Crookston at Maxwell Field. Friday they will travel to play Wayne State (4-1-1, 1-1-1 NSIC) in Wayne Nebraska. The Warriors have never lost a game to the Wildcats of Wayne State dating back to the fall of 1999.
On Sunday afternoon the Warriors will return home to host Augustana (2-3-1, 1-1-1 NSIC). The Vikings have won the last three match ups with the Warriors. The last matchup between these two teams was in the NSIC tournament last year.
SENIOR STAR POWER: The Warriors have just two seniors on the 2016 squad but both are key contributors to the WSU team. Last season both Kenzie Rose and Meg Riebau were named to all-region teams.
FRESHMAN PHENOM: Last season the Warriors were led by freshman Abby Bohanski, who scored 11 goals in her first year in a WSU kit. This year so far, she has five goals in six games, placing her third in the NSIC.
IN THE NICK OF TIME: Winona State was down 1-2 at the 89th minute of its matchup against Ferris State. Goals from Courtney Wiencek and Abby Bohanski 38 seconds apart shut the door on Ferris State.
FINDING THEIR NET PRESENCE: This season the Warriors will look to get the ball in the back of the net more frequently than 2015. Last season they were held to just 24 goals, their lowest total since the program began in 1995. The NSIC has also grown in size and competitive since that time, which has played a factor in lower scoring performances. Currently the Warriors have 14 goals on the season.
HOME SWEET HOME: In the last three seasons WSU is 26-3-3 in home matches. This year they have started 2-1.
LOOKING AHEAD: The Warriors will be on the road next weekend to play St. Cloud State Friday and Minnesota Duluth Sunday.
