Warriors Tame Huskies

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – #9 Winona State University was on a roll Friday night, beating St. Cloud State in straight sets; 25-13, 25-13, 25-17. The Warriors outhit the Huskies .292-.018 on the evening. Winona State hit over .300 in the first two sets.
 
The Huskies put up a fight early in the first set and the score was tied at six before a kill by Danielle Rampart put the Warriors in a groove. Winona State would go on a 11-2 run, taking a 17-8 lead. St. Cloud State was unable to recover as the Warriors closed out the set.
 
The second set started like the first, with the Huskies staying close. Winona State held a slight two-point lead, 10-8 before taking over. A kill by Maria Fruechte and a Huskies attack error gave WSU a four-point advantage. With the score sitting at 18-13 after back-to-back SCSU points, the Warriors closed out the set with seven straight points. Maria Wrage had two kills and two block assists in the 7-0 run.
 
Winona State was able to jump out early in the third set, taking a 9-2 lead. St. Cloud would rally back, drawing within one at 10-9 before the Warriors responded. The set was still close at the midpoint with Winona State leading 17-14. The Huskies could not get over the hill and the Warriors closed out the match with an 8-4 run.
