No. 15 Winona extends season-best winning streak with sweep of Dragons

MOORHEAD, Minn. – No. 15 Winona State University extended its winning streak to six in a row on Friday night with a straight-set victory at Minnesota Moorhead. The Warriors have swept four matches during their current streak.

WSU coasted past the Dragons by scores of 25-9, 25-16, 25-14.

The Warriors are fired on all cylinders at the right time with postseason play scheduled to begin next week. WSU has hit over .400 in each of its last three matches, including a .404 clip on Saturday.

Winona never trailed at any point of the first two games, and raced out to a 9-0 lead in set one.

Moorhead's biggest lead of the night came in the third set at 7-5 but the Warriors answered with six straight points in the midst of a 13-1 run to take the lead for good and nailed down the sweep.

Danielle Rampart led the Warriors with 12 kills – her 22nd double-digit effort of the season.

McKenna Larsen floored 10 kills on just 13 swings while leading the team in set assists (33) and digs (14).

Maria Fruechte returned to the lineup after missing two matches and recorded nine kills.

WSU improves to 20-7 (14-5 NSIC) with its 15th sweep of the year while Moorhead falls to 9-18 (4-15 NSIC).

The Warriors conclude the regular season and Saturday afternoon with a big road test at No. 7 Northern State. First serve is slated for 2 p.m. in Aberdeen, S.D.
