#23 Warriors Halt Golden Bears' Win Streak

WINONA, Minn. – Four Winona State Warriors (20-5, 15-4 NSIC) scored in double figures and Hannah McGlone recorded her third consecutive double-double to power past Concordia, St. Paul 69-59.  
 
The Warriors opened up Friday night's match against Concordia St. Paul (17-8, 13-6 NSIC) shooting a hot 69 percent, making nine of 13 shots from the field in the first quarter. Kayla Timmerman had seven points in the opening quarter. The Warriors also connected on their three pairs of free throws. Holding the Golden Bears to 33 percent shooting, the Warriors outscored them 25-17.
 
Neither team could find a bucket to open the second quarter as no one scored until the Golden Bears sank a three-pointer two and a half minutes in. That being said, both teams would add 11 points to their total before the half. The Warriors only connected on four of 14 attempts. Tara Roelofs chipped in five points in the quarter and was the first Warrior to reach double figures.
 
The Warriors were able to shoot at a more efficient, 67 percent, clip after the half. Jenny Tuttle added four points and Hannah McGlone added six points to make it three Warriors now in double figures. The Warriors would create their biggest lead of the game, 51-37, with just under three minutes remaining in the quarter. The Golden Bears would cut the deficit to eight before McGlone would knock down a jumper to put the Warriors back up by 10, 53-43, heading into the final quarter.
 
The Golden Bears would use a layup and two three-pointers to cut the Warriors' lead to five with seven and a half minutes to play. Kayla Timmerman would complete a three-point play that would put the Warriors up seven. The ensuing possession Timmerman would knock down a three-pointer as the shot clock rang to put them up 10.  The Golden Bears would get only one bucket closer to the Warriors before falling by 10, 69-59.
 
The Warriors shot 52 percent from the field and connected on four of nine three pointers. The Warriors made 13 of 17 free throws. Concordia St. Paul shot 34 percent from the field and 29 percent from behind the arc. The Golden Bears made six of eight free throw attempts.
 
Jenny Tuttle led the Warriors in scoring with 16 points. Close behind her was Kayla Timmerman with 15. Tara Roelofs and Hannah McGlone both scored 12. McGlone also grabbed 10 rebounds to record her 8th double-double of the season and her third consecutively. The Warriors combined for 15 assists on the night, led by Tuttle who had six.
 
The Warriors will celebrate their seniors tomorrow night as they host Minnesota State (14-9, 10-9 NSIC) for a 4 p.m. tip.
