ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Winona State Warriors (5-1) five game Illinois road trip started with a pair of victories on Friday. The day started with a 6-4 win over William Jewell and ended with a 13-0 win over Wisconsin-Parkside.
Vs William Jewel
Alison Nowak put the Warriors up 1-0 in the second inning with a single up the middle, driving in
Allyson O'Herron.
The game would stay that way until the fourth inning, when William Jewell got the offense going. A RBI triple to right center tied the game. Moments later, they took a lead on a fielder's choice.
The Warriors would get back on the board in the sixth inning. O'Herron tied the game with her bunt as
McKenna Larsen came around to score.
Mariah Schultz put the Warriors in front with a two-run double, plating pinch runner
McKenna Gutt and
Samantha McLean.
Shaye Witte added an insurance run with a single to right field, driving in Schultz.
Lani Van Zyl drove in O'Herron with a single up the middle in the seventh inning giving the Warriors a 6-2 lead. William Jewell attempted a rally in the seventh inning. Two runs scored to make it 6-4 and force WSU into a pitching change. With the bases loaded and two outs, Larsen earned the one out save, inducing a fly ball to right field.
Vs Wisconsin-Parkside
Winona State got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first with a pair of two unearned runs. McLean drove in both
Paige Keegan and
Jamee Schleis with a single up the middle. Another unearned run touched home in the second inning when
Katelyn Kolb drove in Schultz with a single to left center.
In the third inning
McKenna Larsen doubled home Keegan who reached via a walk to start the inning. The Warriors fifth run scored when Van Zyl doubled to left center, driving in Larsen. Schultz drove in two more runs with a double to right center, allowing McLean and Van Zyl to score.
Schultz came through for the Warriors in the fourth, delivering a two-out, bases loaded double to left field. Another WSU double followed, this one my Nowak, and the Warriors led 11-0. Before the inning ended, the Warriors scored twice more.
Jaida Reynen and
Cassie Santiago both had RBI singles to make the final score line 13-0.
Larsen threw all five innings, allowing just one hit and striking out one. The only batter that reached did so on a single in the top of the first.
Tomorrow the Warriors will take on Lindenwood (1:30 p.m.) and Missouri S&T (8 p.m.).
