ABERDEEN, S.D. – Winona State (18-5, 13-4 NSIC), looking to avenge their Friday night loss to Minnesota State Moorhead, was able to do just that as they defeated the Northern State Wolves (16-5, 12-5 NSIC) 65-53 on Saturday night.

The Wolves started out with a 5-0 run until Jenny Tuttle hit the first of her three, three-pointers to get the Warriors on the board. The Wolves would hang on to their lead until Tuttle again hit a three-pointer to tie up the scores at 17, just a minute before the end of the first quarter. The Wolves would hit a jumper to make it 19-17 to end the quarter.

The Warriors took a one-point advantage four minutes before halftime and made it three points to head to the locker rooms with a 29-26 advantage. The Warriors made 12 of 24 field goals for 50 percent in the first half. The Warriors made three of seven three-pointers as well.

In the third quarter, the Wolves would tie things up again at 36, this time with three minutes to go. A layup from Jenny Weiland would give the Warriors back their lead by one point going into the final quarter.

The Warriors scored 21 points in the final quarter and held the Wolves to just ten. The Wolves would take a shot at the lead, but back-to-back, three-pointers from Tara Roelofs would deny those chances. With those three-pointers the Warriors went up 53-47, their largest lead of the game to this point, with seven minutes left to play. Kayla Timmerman and Hannah McGlone helped the Warriors extend their lead out to ten points, 59-49, with just under two minutes remaining. The Wolves chipped in another four points, but six more free throws from the Warriors would bring the lead up to 65-53 for the final.
