Spring Trip Starts With a Split

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Warriors (9-2) split their first day of action in Florida. The trip started with a 2-1 loss to Missouri St. Louis (13-6) before winning 11-3 over Pitt-Johnstown (1-1). Winona State racked up 13 hits in the 11-3 win.

Through the first three innings of play, the two teams combined for just one hit, coming in the top of the second for Missouri-St. Louis. In the top of the fourth, the Tritons struck for a run with a one out single. WSU tried to counter in the bottom of the inning, loading the bases with two outs. Unfortunately, a fly out to left halted the threat.
 
Following a scoreless fifth inning, the Tritons got back on the board. A two out double gave the Tritons a 2-0 lead. Winona State loaded the bases with nobody out in the seventh inning. Katelyn Kolb drew a walk, bringing the Warriors within one. The late inning rally fell short as three straight outs ended the game.
 
Jordyn Kleman threw all seven innings, striking out seven and giving up just five hits.
 
Vs Pitt-Johnstown
 
Winona State batted through the lineup in both the first and second innings against Pitt-Johnstown. In the first inning, the Warriors scored four runs, all unearned. Alison Nowak singled home Kolb to start the scoring. Allyson O'Herron's sac fly to right field drove in McKenna Larsen. Finally, Lani Van Zyl drove in the final two runs of the inning.
 
In the second inning, the Warriors struck for five runs. O'Herron drove in both Jamee Schleis and Kolb to start the scoring. A pair of fielding errors would help the produce three runs and giving WSU a 9-0 lead.
 
Pitt-Johnstown tried to make a comeback, scoring three runs in the top of the fourth. Winona State would counter back. Cassie Santiago went deep to give the Warriors a 10-3 lead in the fourth. The game ended in the fifth inning when Nowak doubled driving in Samantha McLean to end the game with the Warriors winning 11-3.
 
O'Herron finished the game with three RBI's. Nowak and Van Zyl each had two RBI's. Larsen earned the win, allowing just one hit in three innings of work.
