CLERMONT, Fla. – Winona State (11-2) picked up a pair of victories over Stonehill (1-8) on Monday afternoon. The Warriors won both games 8-0 in five innings over the Skyhawks.
Jaida Reynen earned her first win as a Warrior, throwing all five innings in the second game and allowing just four hits.
GAME ONE
After a scoreless first inning,
Lani Van Zyl put the Warriors up one with a home run to left field. The Warriors would tack on two more in the third. Stonehill had their lone hit of the game in the top of the third but the runner was stranded on second.
McKenna Larsen singled to center driving in
Katelyn Kolb, before scoring on
Allyson O'Herron's single to right field.
Samantha McLean would also score on O'Herron's single.
The final four runs of the game all scored in the bottom of the fourth
Shaye Witte started the scoring, driving the ball over the fence in center. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth three unearned runs crossed the plate.
Larsen finished with one strikeout and gave up just one hit. She did not walk a batter, facing just 17 hitters in five innings. The only other batter to reach base did so on a WSU error.
GAME TWO
Unearned runs allowed the Warriors to take a lead in the first inning of the second game against Stonehill.
Alison Nowak picked up both RBI's with her first inning single. Reynen worked around a two out double in the bottom of the first.
Three more runs would score in the second inning for Winona State.
Jamee Schleis drove in both Kolb and Reynen, putting the Warriors up 4-0. Larsen drove in the final run of the inning as Schleis scored following an error.
Kolb drove in Reynen in the top of the fourth to give WSU a 6-0 lead. Reynen then worked around back-to-back one out singles in the bottom of the fourth to keep her shutout.
Nowak and Van Zyl surrounded a one-out pop up with homers in the top of the fifth to secure the 8-0 win.
Tomorrow the Warriors look to increase their three game winning streak as they take on Rockhurst (3:30 p.m.) and Mercyhurst (6 p.m.).
