CROOKSTON, Minn. – Winona State (29-6, 10-0 NSIC) took down Minnesota Crookston (11-20-1, 1-8-1 NSIC) in a pair of games on Saturday. The Warriors won game one 10-0 and then game two 9-0.
GAME ONE
Lani Van Zyl put the Warriors up one in the first, driving in
Jamee Schleis. After a scoreless second inning, Van Zyl was back at it. She drove in Schleis once again, this time with a double.
Mariah Schultz drove in
McKenna Larsen to put WSU up 3-0.
Larsen kept cruising in along, holding the Golden Eagles in check. In the top of the fourth the Warriors put up four runs. Schleis was hit with the bases loaded, driving in Alyson O'Herron. Larsen reached on a fielder's choice and error allowed two runs to score. The final run of the inning scored when Schultz singled, driving in
McKenna Gutt.
Winona State put the game away with three runs in the sixth inning. Schleis smacked a two-run homer to make it 9-0. The final run of the game scored when Van Zyl drove in Larsen with a double.
In the circle Larsen threw six innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five.
GAME TWO
Schultz homered in the second inning to get the scoring started in game two. The Warriors put up another four run inning in the top of the third. Van Zyl drove in Schleis to double the WSU lead.
Shaye Witte singled to plate Van Zyl. The final two runs scored when Ali Nowak drove in both Witte and Schultz with a single.
Larsen picked up an RBI in the fourth, driving Sam McLean. Winona State scored three more runs in the top of the fifth, securing the win. McLean singled in Schultz to start the scoring.
Katelyn Kolb reached on an error and Nowak scored on a play. The final run scored on a RBI ground out.
Jordyn Kleman threw all five innings, allowing just one hit and striking out nine Golden Eagles.
Winona State will battle Bemidji State on Sunday.
