BEMIDJI, Minn. – Jordyn Kleman threw a no-hitter in the second game of the day to help Winona State sweep Bemidji State. The Warriors (31-6, 12-0 NSIC) also won their 30
th game of the year, marking the 17
th straight year WSU has won at least 30 games in a season. Winona State won game one 9-1 and game two 9-0.
It is the second no-hitter for Kleman this year. She threw a five inning no-hitter against Wisconsin Parkside on February 17.
GAME ONE
Big Hits Lead to Big Win
In the top of inning number one
Lani Van Zyl tripled to left center, driving in both
McKenna Larsen and
Katelyn Kolb, giving WSU a 2-1 lead. The Beavers would respond with a run in the bottom of the inning but it would be the only run Larsen would allow.
Larsen helped her own cause, driving in three runs with a double in the top of the third.
Jamee Schleis, Kolb and Sam McLean all scored on the hit. After two scoreless innings the Warriors put the game away with four runs in the fifth.
Paige Keegan singled to right field, driving in Shay Witte for the first run of the inning. McLean drove in
Megan McCabe with a single up the middle.
McKenna Gutt scored on Kolb's triple to give WSU a 9-1 win. Larsen allowed six hits but got the Beavers to hit into three double plays in the game.
GAME TWO
Kleman No Hits Beavers
Shaye Witte singled to right field in the top of the first, driving in Schleis and Van Zyl, and putting Winona State up 2-0. In the second inning Kolb drove in Keegan with a single to left field. Maria Schultz drove in McLean to give WSU a 4-0 lead after an inning and a third.
Kolb was back at in the third, driving in McLean with a double to right center. The Beavers had runners on in the first and fifth innings, thanks to a walk on each occasion. Kleman however did not allow any hits.
In the sixth Larsen hit a sac fly to center, driving in Schleis. Another Beaver drew a walk to lead off the sixth up three straight outs kept Kleman's no-hitter alive.
The game got busted open in the seventh when the Warriors scored three runs on three hits. Ali Nowak hit a double to right center, driving in
Katie Schlegel. Kolb put the final nail in the coffin, driving in two with a double to center field.
