BISMARCK, N.D. – No. 13 Winona State University opened its weekend road trip with a sweep at the University of Mary on Friday night. The Warriors' 57 digs were a season high for a three-set match.
The Marauders took the Warriors to the brink in the first two sets before WSU made quick work of the home team in the final game of the straight-set victory. Winona won be scores of 25-23, 25-22, 25-13.
Libero Becca Pagel continued her outstanding rookie campaign with 15 digs. The freshman has recorded double-digit digs in all 14 WSU matches this year.
McKenna Larsen chipped in 14 digs from her setter position and dished out 24 assists to guide the Warrior offense to a .306 hitting percentage.
The Winona back row defenders and blockers made it tough on the Mary attackers, limiting the Marauders to a .188 hitting percentage. WSU recorded seven blocks in the win, led by Lauren Kudronowicz who matched her season high with four.
The Warriors were incredibly efficient in the final set of their sweep, needing just 32 swings to floor 16 kills.
Danielle Rampart led the offense with 10 kills while also recording eight digs. Kate Masberg and Jordan Runge chipped in eight kills apiece, followed by six apiece from Kudronowicz and Maria Wrage.
U-Mary falls to 5-10 (1-5 NSIC) after suffering its third straight loss.
Winona State improves to 10-4 (4-2 NSIC) and returns to action on Saturday at Minot State University. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
