INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – No. 13 Winona State University volleyball picked up a pair of sweeps on Friday at the University of Indianapolis Invitational. All four Warrior wins this season have come in straight-set fashion.
WSU defeated Stonehill College, 25-11, 25-17, 25-18 Friday morning before concluding the day with a 25-18, 25-17, 25-17 triumph over Saginaw Valley State.
The Warriors recorded a season-best seven aces from the service line against Stonehill with McKenna Larsen accounting for three of those points. Larsen chipped in a pair of kills, two blocks and three digs while recording 20 assists from her setter position in the win.
Danielle Rampart floored a team-high nine kills, followed by Megan Flom and Maria Fruechte with seven apiece.
Winona didn't have its sharpest offensive match, owning a .181 hitting percentage, which was hindered by nine attacking errors in the third game, but six blocks at the net and 53 digs by the defense helped propel the Warriors to victory.
Freshman Becca Pagel once again led WSU with 19 digs, and Rampart added 10 of her own.
The Warriors were much crisper offensively in their second sweep of the day, recording a .305 attacking percentage against Saginaw Valley.
Rampart drilled 13 kills, followed by Maria Wrage with nine and Jordan Runge with six kills.
Winona played big at the net, posting a season-high eight blocks led by Wrage with four.
The Warriors led wire-to-wire against Saginaw, never trailing at any point of the three-set match.
Winona State (4-2) will conclude the weekend with two more matches in Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors will then open NSIC play next week at Minnesota State-Mankato.
