MARSHALL, Minn. – Winona State University remained undefeated in its all-time series with Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday evening, dominating the Mustangs in a 3-0 victory. Abby Bohanski, Melissa Greco and Riley Harmon each netted goals, while Jourdan Valkner posted her third shutout of the season.
Bohanski and Greco scored less than a minute apart in the first half, and Harmon added another for good measure off an assist by Bohnaski in the second half of play.
Winona State outshot SMSU, 20-7, in the lopsided victory. The Warriors put 12 shots on target and Valkner halted all six shots on goal by the Mustangs. Five of the Warriors' six first half shots landed on target with two finding the back of the net.
Bohanski provided the initial offensive spark in the 25th minute off a feed from Greco. Just 50 seconds later, Greco was rewarded for her teamwork with an unassisted goal of her own to give Winona State an early two-goal cushion in the match. For both Bohanski and Greco, it was their fourth goals of the year.
Valkner made four crucial saves in the first half, one right before halftime to keep the momentum on the Warriors side.
After the break, WSU peppered SMSU goalkeeper Jenna Meyer with 14 shots in the second half. Harmon joined the scoring party early in the second half scoring her second goal of the season.
Heading into senior day on Sunday, Bohanski further cemented herself in Warrior history with her performance on Friday. The senior forward claimed sole possession of ninth place all-time in career goals (31), moved into a tie for third in game-winning goals (13) and improved her career point total to 79 (11th all-time).
In addition to those who scored, Addie Royer fired three shots and put two on goal in the victory.
Valkner improves to 4-5-1 on the season collecting her sixth career shutout.
Winona State moves to 7-7-1 (7-6-1 NSIC) with the triumph and sends SMSU to a record of 3-13 (3-11 NSIC). A win in Sunday's regular season finale will punch the Warriors' ticket to the NSIC Tournament.
WSU will honor its eight seniors prior to kickoff Sunday when the Warriors host Sioux Falls at 1 p.m. at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium in Winona.
