WINONA, Minn. – Winona State University completed an undefeated weekend of conference matches on its home court at the Winona Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon with a 6-3 triumph over Minnesota State University Moorhead.
The Warriors (13-2, 10-1 NSIC) and Dragons (14-3, 9-2 NSIC) entered the match tied in the NSIC standings, and Winona State took hold of the two seed for the upcoming conference tournament with the win.
Seniors Justine Daane, Rachel Gantz, Kali Hackmann and Lauren Willkom were each honored prior to the match by head coach Heather Reilly. Three of the four seniors were in action against Moorhead with Daane and Hackmann having a perfect day in their respective doubles and singles matches.
The Warriors held a 2-1 advantage in the match after doubles. At No. 1, Daane and Kaisey Skibba scored a 9-7 win, and the duo of Hackmann and Tayla Card were 8-3 winners at doubles No. 3.
Daane was the first to finish at singles No. 3 with a 6-3, 6-4 win. Kendra Kappes scored her first victory of the day with a 6-2, 6-2 decision at singles No. 4. Hackmann and Gantz wrapped up their senior day performances with wins in each of their respective singles matches as well to seal the team victory.
The Warriors conclude the regular season with a non-conference match at Luther College scheduled for next Friday, April 13 before the NSIC Tournament begins on April 21st.
