Winona State sweeps UMary for fourth straight win

BISMARK, N.D. – Winona State University completed an undefeated weekend road trip through North Dakota on Saturday afternoon with a straight-set triumph over the University of Mary. The Warriors hit a season-best .374 to go along with 46 kills which marks a new a season-high for a three set match.

Winona State's third sweep of the year came by set scores of 25-11, 25-22, 25-19.

The Warriors' (8-9, 5-4 NSIC) winning streak has reached a season-long four consecutive matches while UMary (3-14, 0-9 NSIC) suffers its 13th straight loss. Dating back to a sweep of then-No. 7 Southwest Minnesota State, Winona State has won five of its last six matches.  

The Warriors recorded a team attacking percentage over .300 in both matches this weekend, marking the first back-to-back occurrence this season. On Saturday, Taylor Goar (.480), Cori Meyers (.429) and Megan Flom (.412) led the way while combining for 29 kills.

Winona State recorded a .467 clip in the dominant set one victory with 15 kills compared to just one error.

The Warriors had to rally from a 19-17 deficit late in set two, doing so with a four-point run to take a 21-19 edge beginning with a block by Paige Christopher and Sophie Wilker. The Marauders answered with two straight points to knot the score at 21-all before another four-put WSU run ended the game. Flom, Goar and Meyers each floored kills in the final rallies of the set.

Winona State never trailed in the final game and used a 7-2 run late to seal the match sweep.

Wilker totaled a team-high six blocks. Goar recorded her fifth straight double-double with 12 digs and 13 kills.

The Warriors return to Winona for a pair of matches on Homecoming weekend beginning Friday against MSU Moorhead. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. in McCown Gymnasium.
