Team effort propels Warriors to sweep of UMary

WINONA, Minn. – No. 17 Winona State University made short work of the University of Mary on Friday night inside McCown Gymnasium with a straight set victory over the Marauders. Winona Stae got contributions up-and-down the lineup in the convincing triumph.

The Warriors cruised to their ninth sweep of the year by set scores of 25-14, 25-12, 25-12.

Winona State improves to 16-4 (8-4 NSIC) with its eighth win in the last 10 matches. UMary drops to 1-20 (0-12 NSIC).

Megan Flom continued her red-hot streak by flooring eight of her nine kills in the opening game to set the tone for the home team. The junior hit a blistering .571 which stands as her fifth match over the last seven outings with an attacking percentage of .500 or better.

Flom also added three blocks in the set one victory.

The opening set saw Kate Masberg drop a pair of aces on the Marauders with Casey Volkmann following suit in set two, and freshman Kami Knutsen adding a pair of her own in set three.

Winona State's eight aces came one match removed from a season-best nine at MSU Moorhead in a three-set match.

Sophomore outside Cori Meyers paced the offense in set two with five of her seven kills – her highest total in six matches.

Knutsen, a rookie setter, took over in game three and recorded seven assists as WSU hit .320 collectively in the final game. Fellow freshman Mikenna Joerger was on the receiving end of two of those assists for a pair of kills as was senior Alexis Bass with two kills in set three, including the match-winning kill.

Starting setter Bre Maloney fed the offense with 20 assists while adding a pair of kills and five digs. Libero Becca Pagel had a team-high 14 digs.

The Warriors have a short turnaround as Minot State University travels to Winona for a Saturday morning match slated to begin at 11 a.m.
