(RV) Winona State makes statement with sweep at No. 19 Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – (RV) Winona State University authored its first signature win of the 2019 season Friday night by sweeping No. 19 Sioux Falls on its home court in straight sets. Paige Christopher, Megan Flom and Madison Rizner each floored double-digit kills in the sweep.

In a hard-fought match, the Warriors and Cougars went to extra points twice with WSU prevailing by scores of 28-26, 25-17, 28-26.

Winona State tallied a .276 attacking percentage while being blocked at the net just once. On the other side, Sioux Falls was limited to a .219 clip, nearly 40 points below its season average, and was stuffed 10 times by the Warriors. Winona State's 10 blocks match a season high.

As is often the case with Rizner, while excelling offensively with a team-best 12 kills, the sophomore also led the Warriors at the net with five blocks. Rizner has owned a hitting percentage over .400 for the third straight match.

Freshman Madison Larson, who downed seven kills, also added three blocks, including a pair of solo blocks. Flom added three blocks of her own while registering 11 kills and tallying a season-best .476 attacking percentage. The junior had just one hitting error on 21 swings.

Christopher also stepped up big for the Warriors in Friday's road upset with 10 kills.

Bre Maloney set the offense masterfully with 35 assists. Libero Becca Pagel paced the back row with 12 digs.

Winona State improves to 11-2 (3-2 NSIC) with the triumph while Sioux Falls drops to 11-2 (3-2 NSIC).

The Warriors will look to knock off another ranked opponent when they return to action on Saturday afternoon at No. 8 Southwest Minnesota State. The road trip finale is slated for 2 p.m.
