Winona State suffers first NSIC loss to Augustana

WINONA, Minn. – Winona State University's run of five straight wins came to an end Saturday evening when the Warriors faced off against perennial powerhouse Augustana University. Both the Warriors and Vikings entered the match undefeated in conference play, but only Augustana remained that way after emerging with a 7-0 victory at the Winona Tennis Center.

The Vikings swept the Warriors for their 104th consecutive NSIC win to move atop the conference standings.

The Warriors' Doubles No. 1 (Beth Murman & Kaisey Skibba) and No. 2 (Tayla Card & Kendra Kappes) both produced competitive matches before eventually falling to the Vikings by scores of 6-3. Augustana took the doubles team point and proceeded to win out in singles play.

Kappes (Singles No. 2) endured her first loss of the season by scores of 6-4, 6-2.

Skibba (Singles No. 3) put up the best fight of the day with a 7-6 (tiebreaker), 6-3 loss to her opponent.

Winona State will look to start another winning streak next weekend with a pair of matches in Fargo, N.D. against MSU Moorhead and UMary. Following that road trip, the Warriors will travel to Florida for four matches over spring break.
