FARGO, N.D. – The Winona State University women's tennis team suffered back-to-back losses for the first time in two years this weekend with setbacks to conference foes MSU Moorhead and UMary.
After compiling a five-match NSIC winning streak, the Warriors (5-4, 5-3 NSIC) have now dropped three straight.
WSU suffered a 7-0 loss to the Moorhead Dragons on Friday night and endured a 6-1 defeat to the UMary Marauders on Saturday afternoon.
Kaisey Skibba tallied the lone Warrior win of the weekend with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at Singles No. 3 against UMary. The junior improves to 5-4 in singles action this season with her triumph.
Despite Saturday's final score, several Warriors produced competitive matches. Beth Murman (Singles No. 1) dropped her match by scores of 7-5, 7-5. At No. 5, Faith Young was edged by scores of 6-4, 7-6. At Doubles No. 1, Murman and Skibba fell by a count of 6-4.
The Warriors will escape the cold next weekend for the Florida sunshine beginning on Sunday, March 10. Winona State will look to start a new winning streak with four matches over its spring break trip in Orlando.
