WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University tennis team opened conference play Friday night with a convincing 6-1 victory over Minnesota State Mankato at the Winona Tennis Center. The Warriors swept doubles play and were nearly flawless in singles action en route to their first win of the season.
The team of Beth Murman and Kaisey Skibba improved to 2-0 on the year at Doubles No. 1, while Tayla Card and Kendra Kappes (No. 2), and Caitlin Anderson and Mya Lubben each tallied their first wins of the year as a pair.
Kappes (Singles No. 2) and Card (Singles No. 4) each picked up their second wins in as many tries this season as the action shifted to one-on-one play. Three Warriors then picked up their first triumphs of the year in singles play. Skibba (No. 3) was a 6-2, 6-3 winner, Faith Young (No. 5) rallied for a 3-6, 7-5, 11-9 victory, and Anderson (No. 6) prevailed by scores of 6-2, 6-3.
The Warriors conclude their current homestand with another NSIC dual on Saturday afternoon against Southwest Minnesota State University. First serve is slated for 3:30 p.m.
