Box Score 2 ORLANDO, Fla. – After arriving a day late in Florida, the Winona State University tennis team got off to a slow start before snapping its four-match losing streak with a 5-2 victory over Mount Holyoke on Monday night. The Warriors lost their first match of the day to (RV) University of Charleston, 7-0.
WSU was unable to escape the Minnesota winter as originally scheduled on Sunday and had to wait until Monday to arrive in the Sunshine State. The Warriors showed some jetlag in their first match before improving to 6-5 with the win over Mount Holyoke. The Doubles No. 1 team of Beth Murman and Kaisey Skibba did score a 6-4 win over Charleston's top duo despite the team setback.
In the nightcap, Winona State got doubles wins at No. 1 from Murman and Skibba (6-4) and No. 2 Kendra Kappes and Tayla Card (7-5) to take the team point.
Murman, Skibba and Card were each winners in singles play. Caitlin Anderson's 6-3, 6-1 win at Singles No. 6 helped ensure the Winona State team win.
The Warriors will play two more matches in Florida beginning with a matchup at Webber International University on Tuesday and a Wednesday showdown at Eckerd College.
