Warriors open final homestand with win over Bemidji State

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University tennis team picked up a pivotal 6-1 win on Saturday evening against Bemidji State University to begin its final weekend of regular season play at the Winona Tennis Center.

The victory creates separation in the conference standings as Winona State (8-7, 7-3 NSIC) moves into third place with the postseason tournament just two weeks away.

The Warriors got out to a 1-0 team lead with doubles wins by Beth Murman/Kaisey Skibba (No. 1) and Tayla Card/Kendra Kappes (No. 2). WSU's top doubles duo of Murman and Skibba improved to 11-4 on the year and 7-3 against NSIC opponents. Card and Kappes combined for their third straight doubles triumph.

Winona State rolled to the decisive team win by tallying victories at Singles 1-5. Card (No. 4) improved to 10-5 overall this season with her fourth straight singles win. At No. 3, Skibba battled back for a 5-7, 6-4, 10-6 win and No. 5 Faith Young also rallied for a 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 win.

The Warriors wrap up the weekend and the regular season on Sunday morning with a 9 a.m. matchup with Minnesota Crookston.
