KENOSHA, Wis. – (RV) Winona State University dropped just one set on Saturday as the Warriors rolled to their second straight weekend of flawless tournament action. WSU began the day with a 3-1 victory over Hampton Inn Invite host UW-Parkside before drilling Purdue Northwest in straight sets to improve to 8-0 on the season. Kate Masberg and Bre Maloney were named to the All-Tournament Team following the conclusion of play.
After flooring 27 kills over two matches on Friday, Masberg once again led the Warrior offense against UW-Parkside with 10 kills as the junior concludes the weekend with 67 kills through eight matches. Freshman Madison Larson is the team leader with 68 kills over the first eight contests.
WSU downed UW-Parkside by scores of 25-22, 25-18, 18-25, 25-11. The Warriors returned to the court later in the evening to dominate Purdue Northwest by scores of 25-9, 25-10, 25-13 – allowing just 32 combines points over three sets.
Paige Christopher paced the attack against Purdue Northwest with 11 kills as nine different Warriors recorded at least one kill. Four different Warriors tallied at least one ace, led by Masberg (3), as WSU posted a season-high total of seven. Defensively, WSU's nine blocks against the Pride were just one shy of a season high. Madison Rizner was the leading blocker at the net with seven. The Warriors also tallied 70 digs – their most for a three-set match this year. Becca Pagel contributed 18 digs while Casey Volkmann added a career-best 14.
Flying high off an 8-0 start, the Warriors will now transition into conference play. WSU didn't register its eighth win of the 2018 campaign until September 29 as the 2019 squad has officially put the league on notice.
Winona State opens NSIC action next weekend with trips to (RV) St. Cloud State (Sept. 20) and No. 6 Minnesota Duluth (Sept. 21). The Warriors will then play on their home court for the first time this season on September 27-28.
