SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Winona State University went on the road for a pair of NSIC matchups this weekend and returned home with a season record of 3-1 after dropping a 6-1 decision to the defending conference champion Augustana Vikings on Saturday and closed the trip with a 7-0 sweep at the University of Sioux Falls Sunday.
Augustana has won 114 consecutive NSIC regular season matches.
Sophomore Beth Murman accounted for the Warriors' win over Augustana with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 victory at Singles No. 1.
Winona State lost the doubles point, but also saw Kendra Kappes and Rachel Kelly come away with a 6-1 triumph at Doubles No. 2.
On Sunday, the Warriors won all three doubles' matches and proceeded to sweep through Sioux Falls in singles' play.
Kappes rallied for a 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (12-10) win at Singles No. 2 and the remainder of the Warriors' took down the competition in two. No. 3 Kaisey Skibba was a 6-2, 6-2 winner, Kelly earned a 6-0, 6-2 win, Tayla Card was triumphant with a 6-3, 6-3 score and Rina Niehoff was a 6-2, 6-2 winner.
Winona State returns home for a pair of NSIC matches next weekend against UMary and MSU Moorhead at the Winona Tennis Center.
