The Winona State Warriors tennis team stayed at home for a pair of NSIC matchups in which they defeated previously undefeated University of Mary 6-1, but fell by a 5-2 decision to MSU Moorhead.
The Warriors record now stands at 4-2 after the weekend split.
On Saturday against U-Mary the Warriors won the doubles point thanks to a 6-2 victory from Kenra Kappes and
Rachel Kelly, as well as a 6-3 win for
Tayla Card and
Rina Niehoff.
In the singles category, the Warriors won five out of the six matches.
Beth Murman won #1 singles with an exciting 6-1, 4-6, 12-10 three set match.
Kaisey Skibba won 6-1, 6-0 in the #3 spot,
Rachel Kelly won 7-5, 3-6, 10-7 in the #4 spot,
Tayla Card won 6-3, 6-1 in the #5 spot, and
Rina Niehoff closed things out with a 6-1, 6-4 win in the #6 spot.
On Sunday, the Warriors lost the doubles point and only managed to garner two singles victories against MSU Moorhead.
Even though the Warriors lost the point in doubles, the duo of
Rachel Kelly and
Kendra Kappes managed to geta 6-4 win in their set.
Rachel Kelly moved to 5-1 on the year with a 6-4, 6-3 victory in the #4 slot, while
Tayla Card also moved to 5-1 with a hard fought 1-6, 7-6, 6-3 victory.
Winona State hits the road this weekend as they head to Crookston, Minn. for a pair of NSIC matches vs. Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State.
