Box Score 2 The Winona State Warriors women's tennis team upped their record to 6-2 this weekend after a sweep over Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State.
The Cougars easily handled Minnesota Crookston Friday afternoon by a score of 7-0.
Winona State managed to garner their first point of the match by winning all three doubles matches.
Not one Warrior gave up a point the entire day as
Beth Murman (#1),
Kendra Kappes (#2),
Kaisey Skibba (#3),
Rachel Kelly (#4), and
Tayla Card (#5) all won 6-0, 6-0 in their respective matches.
The Warriors won their final point off a Golden Eagle forfeit in the #6 singles spot.
The Warriors picked up their second win in as many days by taking down the Beavers of Bemidji State Saturday by a final score of 6-1.
The Warriors opened the scoring up 1-0 with doubles wins from
Kendra Kappes and
Rachel Kelly (6-4), and
Tayla Card and
Rina Niehoff (6-1).
Beth Murman won a tough #1 singles match by a score of 6-0, 5-7, 6-1.
Kendra Kappes won #2 singles 6-0, 6-4 while
Kaisey Skibba closed out the top three with a 6-2, 6-2 win at #3 singles.
The Warriors got their final two points from
Rachel Kelly, who won 6-2, 6-3 at #4 singles, and from
Rina Niehoff, who won 6-1, 6-0 at #6 singles.
The Warriors now will prepare for their spring break trip to Florida where they will play a total of six matches in three days. WSU will open their trip against Webber International University at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 9 in Babson Park, Florida.
