WINONA, Minn. – Winona State University opened its 2020 season with a conference match against St. Cloud State University on Friday evening at the Winona Tennis Center and dominated the Huskies by a final score of 6-1.
The Warriors swept doubles competition before going on to five wins in singles action.
At Doubles No. 1, the All-Conference duo of Beth Murman and Kaisey Skibba picked up where they left off in 2019 with a 6-2 win. Kendra Kappes teamed up with freshman Rachel Kelly for a 6-1 triumph at Doubles No. 2, and Tayla Card played alongside newcomer Rina Niehoff at Doubles No. 3 for a 6-1 victory.
Playing at Singles No. 1 for the second straight year, Murman, a sophomore, was a 6-3, 2-6, 13-11 winner. Kappes (No. 2) and Card (No. 5) also posted wins. Kelly completed her impressive debut with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at Singles No. 4 and fellow rookie Brooke Jorgensen added a 6-1, 6-2 win at Singles No. 6.
The Warriors conclude their homestand against Minnesota Duluth on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
