St. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Winona State University men's golf team finished in fourth place at the Missouri Western State University Holiday Inn Invitational, which concluded today, October 12.
The Warriors had a strong showing in round one, shooting a four-over par 288. WSU's second day total of 302 (+18) led the Warriors to a final score of 590, good for fourth place out of 16 teams. Central Oklahoma won the event, shooting a one-over 569. Dawson Wills from Washburn shot a 137 (-5) to earn medalist honors.
The top Warrior in the event was
Gabe Goodman, who competed as an individual. Goodman's four birdies in round one led him to a 70 (-1). He continued strong play in the second round, shooting a 74 (+3). Goodman's two-day total of 144 (+2) was the best of any Warrior and placed him tied for 11th overall.
Abraham Elmore took advantage of finishing the first round with back-to-back par fives, securing birdies on each of them and shooting a 71 (E). He relied on steady play during round two, finishing the tournament in 13th place with a total score of 145 (+3). Elmore recorded pars on 28 holes, which paced the field for total pars.
Brady Holland used a pair of back-nine birdies to finish his first round at an even-par 71. After shooting even-par on the back-nine during round two, Holland shot a total score of 147 (+5) which put him tied for 17th individually.
Dylan Brown had a solid first round, shooting a two-over par 73. After shooting a six-over par 77 during round two, Brown finished with a total score of 150 (+8).
Matt Turner used a stretch of four straight pars on the back nine to finish the first round with a score of 73 (+2). Turner's second round score of 77 (+6) led to a total score of an eight-over 150.
Matthew Chandler opened his first round with three pars but was unable to stay in a groove, shooting an 82 (+11). Chandler was able to bounce back nicely during round two, shooting a four-over par 75 and finishing the event with a score of 157.
WSU will conclude their fall schedule at the Fort Hays State Invitational in Hays, Kansas on October 18-19.
