Warriors fall to Wolves in overtime

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Winona State women's soccer team came up just short against Northern State in a 1-0 overtime loss.

The Warriors (4-9-1, 3-8-1 NSIC) defense stayed strong throughout the game, but Northern State (7-4-3, 6-3-3 NSIC) was able to capitalize on an attack when Megan Fastenau scored for the Wolves in the eighth minute of overtime.

The first half was mainly played around midfield, with not a lot of offensive action by either team. Winona State got five shots off, with three shots on goal. Northern State created three shots with one on net.

The second half saw each team push the ball up field more, especially the Wolves. Northern State had a total of eight shots in the second frame with four being on net. Winona State had opportunities of their own, putting two of four shots on net but the Warriors were unable to find the back of the net.

In overtime, each team created a shot on goal and the Wolves capitalized on their only opportunity to end the game in the 98th minute.

Alyson Jumper played the entirety of the game in net for Winona State, saving five of six shots on goal. Winona State's shots on goal came by all different players, with nobody recording more than one shot on goal. Katie Timmons, Bailey Deininger, and Kara Schramel each played all 98 minutes in the game.

Winona State will be in action next weekend as they travel to Wayne State on Friday, Oct. 29 at 3pm. WSU will then host Augustana on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 1pm. The Warriors and Vikings will square off on Maxwell Field at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium for the last home game of the season.
