#8 WSU volleyball extends winning streak to nine matches in 3-1 win at Northern State

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The #8 Winona State University volleyball team bounced back after dropping the opening set to win 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-13) at Northern State.

Winona State (26-3, 17-3 NSIC) closed out the regular season on a winning streak of nine matches, their longest streak of the year. WSU finished second in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) and will be the second seed in the NSIC Volleyball Tournament next week.

The first set was close all the way through, featuring eight lead changes and 15 ties. Northern State was able to close out the set and win it 25-23. The Warriors responded nicely after dropping the first set and took a commanding 8-1 lead in the second frame. WSU used the early lead to defend off an NSU comeback and won the second set 25-18.

Winona State used another strong start in the third set and controlled the whole set, winning it by a score of 25-17. The Warriors dominated the fourth set, jumping out to a 12-3 lead and holding Northern State to a -.100 hitting percentage on their way to winning 25-13.

Sidney Paulson had another great night from the right side, pacing the Warriors with 19 kills and five service aces. Megan Flom recorded 15 kills of her own at an impressive percentage of .536. Bre Maloney dished out a game-high 50 assists and Becca Pagel collected 18 digs.

The Warriors will next be in action at the NSIC Volleyball Tournament on November 18. The tournament will take place at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D.
