Winona State soccer drops season finale at Upper Iowa

FAYETTE, Iowa - The Winona State University women's soccer team suffered a one-goal setback at Upper Iowa on Friday, Nov. 5, falling to the Peacocks 1-0 in the last game of the 2021 campaign.

For Winona State (4-12-1 / 3-11-1 NSIC), a UIU goal in the 50th minute by Alex Garcia proved to be the difference in the match, as Upper Iowa (8-9-0 / 6-9-0 NSIC) snapped a two-game losing streak at the Warriors' expense.

The season finale for both teams was a physical affair, with the two teams combining for 24 fouls in the contest. Upper Iowa was issued three yellow cards, compared to one for Winona State. WSU was credited with 8 shots, three on goal, while UIU launched 10 shots, putting two on frame.

Individually, Winona State was led offensively by Riley Harmon who had two shots on the day. Missy Greco, Emily Chudik and Kara Schramel all tallied shots in the contest as well, with Schramel picking up a yellow card, her first of the year. Warrior goalkeepers Alyson Jumper and Yanel Ortiz combined to play the 90 minutes in the match, with their Peacock counterpart Natalie Rudrud going the distance for UIU, making three saves and picking up the shutout.

With the loss, WSU concludes the 2021 season, suffering their fourth-straight one-goal setback. The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) women's soccer post-season field will be announced later this evening as contests around the league conclude.
