SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Winona State University women's soccer team hit the road for their final NSIC regular season away contest, taking on Augustana University on Sunday, Oct. 23 in Sioux Falls.
The Warriors took Morstad Field having not lost in their previous four matches - collecting three NSIC wins and one draw over that time - but WSU saw their streak snapped, losing 2-0 to Augustana.
The Winona State attack had the edge in total shots, 9-8, but the Vikings made the most of their chances, scoring a goal in each half to pull away from the Warriors.
AU's Morgan Keirstead scored an unassisted goal in the 35th minute in the only scoring of the first half, although WSU's
Grace Seim hit the crossbar early on in the game. After the break, Augustana doubled their lead late in the match, scoring in the 85th minute as WSU was pressing for an equalizer. The Vikings' Morgan Keirstead was credited with the goal.
WSU saw
Chloe Swanson go the distance in goal, registering three saves, while
Riley Harmon,
Madyson Dye and Seim all registered two shots apiece.
The Warriors drop to 8-5-4 overall and 6-4-4 in NSIC play, while Augustana moves to 9-6-2 overall and 9-4-1 in the NSIC.
The setback moved Winona State to ninth place in the NSIC standings and stretched the Vikings' winning streak over WSU to four straight matches, dating back to 2019. Winona State heads into their final regular season fixture against Upper Iowa on Thursday with 22 points, just behind Northern State with 23. Winona State and Upper Iowa will kick off at 5 p.m. Thursday on Maxwell Field in Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.
