WAYNE, Neb. - The Winona State University volleyball team fell to nationally ranked Wayne State College on Friday, Oct. 28, as the Wildcats - ranked #3 in the latest AVCA poll - overpowered the Warriors, 3-0.
Set one was the closest of the three frames, with Wayne State defeating Winona State, 25-19. WSU drew close on two occasions, narrowing the WSC lead to just two at 12-10 and 13-11, but the home side pulled away wining five of the six final points.
Wayne State took set two 25-16 and wrapped up the match in set three, 25-12. The Wildcats hit .430 as a team on the evening and were led individually by Kelsie Cada in kills with 16 and Taya Beller with 15.
For Winona State,
Madison Larson and
Taylor Pagel hit double-digits in kills with 11 and 10, respectively.
Casey Volkmann had 12 digs, while
Mikenna Joerger and
Sidney Paulson each had a pair of blocks.
Jaci Winchell dished out 31 assists for WSU.
Winona State falls to 12-12 overall and 8-9 in NSIC play. The Warriors will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon, as WSU travels to Augustana University for a key NSIC matchup. Winona State and the Vikings will start at 2 p.m. in the Elmen Center in Sioux Falls.
